The forest is the soul of the landscape around Brebu Nou and Gărâna. From the edge of the villages to the ridges of Semenic, beech and spruce cover the mountain in an almost unbroken expanse of green that changes its face with the seasons.
At lower altitudes the beech dominates. Its tall, bright trunks form open forests that fill with fresh green in spring and turn into a spectacle of gold and copper in autumn. Higher up, the spruce takes over the landscape. The forests grow denser, cooler and quieter, drawing gradually closer to the alpine zones of Semenic.
Some of these forests are protected and form part of the Semenic · Cheile Carașului National Park. Here, old trees, decaying wood and the natural processes of the forest create ideal conditions for numerous species of plants, birds and wild animals.
Each season brings a different forest. Spring means light and fresh foliage. Summer brings shade and coolness. Autumn colours the slopes in warm shades, and winter lays the silence of snow over branches and trails.
For generations, the forest has given the mountain communities wood, food and shelter. Today it remains one of the commune’s most precious places: a space for walking, contemplation and closeness to nature.
