The forests, meadows and streams around Brebu Nou and Gărâna shelter a rich fauna, characteristic of the Mountainous Banat. Here, the wild is rarely seen directly. Most often it lets itself be discovered through tracks, sounds and brief encounters that linger long in the memory.
The beech and spruce forest is home to the Carpathian deer and the roe deer. In autumn, the rutting call of the stags echoes from the ridges, in September and October, an old marker of the season. Wild boar, fox, marten and squirrel complete the picture of the forest animals.
On the heights of the Semenic · Cheile Carașului National Park live the great carnivores of the Carpathians: the brown bear, the wolf and the lynx. Encounters are rare, and their presence is felt through signs rather than sightings. They are protected species that call for respect and caution.
The small world of the fauna is just as remarkable. Meadow butterflies, glossy beetles, the fire salamander, one of the most striking sights of the area’s damp forests, and the snails after rain make up a living universe, easy to notice for anyone who walks the trails attentively.
