Boletes, chanterelles, coral fungi and countless other species appear after the rain in the beech and spruce forests around the commune. Some are spectacular, others almost invisible. Together they make up one of the most fascinating worlds of the forest.
After the rains of late summer and early autumn, the forests surrounding the two sister villages, Brebu Nou and Gărâna, are transformed. Among the leaves, moss and fallen trunks appear shapes, colours and textures that often go unnoticed by those in a hurry.
The beech and spruce forests of Semenic offer ideal conditions for a remarkable diversity of mushrooms. Boletes and chanterelles are among the best known, but alongside them grow many other species that contribute to the balance of the forest ecosystem.
Some impress by their size, others by their unusual forms. Coral fungi, parasol mushrooms or the species that grow on decaying wood add surprising details to the forest landscape.
Beyond their beauty, mushrooms play an essential role in the life of the forest. They break down organic matter, feed the soil and form invisible bonds with the roots of the trees, contributing to the health of the whole ecosystem.
