Village life

The daily rhythm of the commune. Social seasons, holidays, the young, the elderly, the people who keep the village alive.

Brebu Nou Commune has approximately 170 permanent residents, distributed between the two villages. Daily life flows in a rhythm that has been preserved in broad lines for generations. Mornings begin early, depending on the season: with firewood in winter, with forest work in spring, with sheep care in summer, with mushrooms in autumn. In the evening, meetings at the Cultural House or on the bench in front of the church close the day.

The summer season brings a significantly larger population. Families with holiday homes, tourists who come to guesthouses, festival volunteers, hikers on Via Transilvanica. For about three months a year, the village triples the number of people present. The atmosphere becomes more joyful, noisier, more diverse.

Community celebrations are the moments when the village life gathers as a whole. Kirchweih in September, religious holidays, New Year’s, Commune Day. These are the moments when all generations are present in the same place, at the same time.

The calendar of annual community events, information for new residents, opportunities to get involved as a volunteer or partner will be added gradually.

For those considering moving to the area, contact with the Town Hall for practical information is recommended.
