Pemi Museum

The ethnographic collection dedicated to the German colonists who settled in Gărâna and Brebu Nou in 1828. Objects, costumes, documents, photographs. A material memory of a community that defined the identity of Mountainous Banat.

The Pemi Museum was established in response to the need to preserve the objects and memory of the commune’s Banat-Swabian community. Here can be found traditional Kirchweih costumes, household objects, agricultural tools, old documents, family photographs, brass band scores, and journals from the first decades of the community.

The collection was gathered with the help of the Pemi families remaining in Brebu Nou and Gărâna, but also of those who left for Germany and Austria, who donated significant pieces for the community’s memory. Many objects were preserved, generation after generation, in the traditional houses of the village.

There is a plan to move the collection to a larger space in Brebu Nou in the future. This plan would allow better exhibition organisation and increased accessibility for visitors.

Visits to the museum are by appointment, through the Cultural House in Gărâna or through the Democratic Forum of the Germans. Details about the visiting programme, prices, and visit packages are being updated.

The digital catalogue of the collection, educational materials, and options for schools will be added in the coming period.
